The Adventures of Mitt in Writer's Block...land
I want to talk today about Writer's Block. I said I'd update every day with whatever I could, but today I could not think about what I could update with. Not that I had any time til about now to do it anyway, but I still could not think of anything useful to post about.
So here I am talking about Writer's Block, or will be very shortly.
I have this friend you see, and he...well let's call him, Mit. no....Mitt. Mitt's a nice guy, and he's really talented you see, and has lots of great ideas; but I...I mean Mitt doesn't always know how to convey them, either in speech or in writing.
I'm sure all of you have experienced this at one point or other. I tell Mitt that he just needs to write something, no matter what it is, but he always comes back with arguments like "Well, I'm too tired to write." or "I don't really have any time to just sit down and focus on it." or most importantly. "Maybe I'm just no good at this and I should just give it up for something I am...which is nothing else."
You see how frustrating it can be to talk with Mitt. So I gave him little exercises to do, and they seem to help a little. They give him a boost of creativity but then he slumps backward. You see, he also has a lot of projects on his mind that he wants to work on. He has, if memory serves me, 4 or 5 screenplays in his head and in notes, about 3 television shows (or at least the pilots of them), countless short stories and short films and sketches, and a couple of long form fiction or novels (or novellas). However, he jumps from project to project as if he had Creative A.D.D.
So, in response to all this, and all of my...er...Mitt's problems in this area, what do you all suggest? Can you help a brother out?
